Check if you get the Food & Home Card

Visit our member portal or check your plan documents to find out:

  • If your Devoted Health plan includes the Food & Home Card
  • The amount you get
  • How to qualify for the card (by getting Extra Help or with a qualifying health condition)*

Use your Food & Home Card every month

You can use your Food & Home card to pay for:

  • Food and over-the-counter (OTC) items
  • Certain housing costs like electricity, internet, and rent

Choose to spend your money all at once or throughout the month. Either way, be sure to use the full amount — you can’t roll over unused money to the next month. We automatically refill your card on the first of each month, so make sure you don’t throw it away!

How to get started

If your plan automatically includes the card, you’ll get it in the mail.

If your plan requires that you qualify for the card, do one of the following:

Once you get your card, follow the instructions it comes with to activate it.

How to buy food or OTC items

  1. Shop at participating grocery stores and pharmacies — including Walmart, CVS, Walgreens, Kroger, and more
  2. Choose qualifying foods and OTC items
  3. Swipe your Food & Home Card as CREDIT

You can also shop online with CVS or with the OTC Health Solutions app (iPhone | Android). You can only use your card at participating stores — not at convenience stores, restaurants (including fast food), or gas stations. To search for participating stores, log in at CVS.

How to pay utility bills, mortgage, or rent

Use your 16-digit card number. Keep in mind:

  • You can pay any utility company or landlord that accepts Visa and has a qualifying Merchant Category Code (MCC) — meaning they need to be listed in Visa’s system as a utility, rent, or mortgage provider.
  • The address on the bill needs to match your address on file with Devoted.
  • If there’s a processing fee, we'll use part of your monthly benefit to pay the fee.
  • You can not use your benefit on money orders, prepaid cell phone service, or gasoline for your car.

Common questions

How much money do I get each month?

Visit our member portal or check your plan documents.

Can I use the benefit before my card arrives?

Yes! You can use your benefit online with CVS or with the OTC Health Solutions app (iPhone | Android). You can also call 1-800-338-6833 (TTY 711) to place a CVS order for home delivery.

Do I need a PIN?

Nope, just swipe your card and choose CREDIT when you pay! If you select debit, the card will not work.

Do I need to spend the full amount all at once?

Nope. You can spend it however you want throughout the month, but be sure to spend it all — you can’t roll over unused money to the next month.

How do I check my balance?

There are 3 ways to check your balance:

Will I get a new card each month?

No, so be sure to hold onto your card. We automatically add more money to it on the first of each month.

Are there any limits on what foods I can buy?

For food, you can buy any foods you choose, but we recommend sticking with items like:

  • Fruits and vegetables
  • Fish and lean meats
  • Eggs, cheese, milk, and other dairy products
  • Whole grains, like whole wheat bread and brown rice
  • Nuts, seeds, and spreads
  • Olive oil and other plant-based oils
  • Supplemental drinks like Boost® and Ensure®

You can’t use your card for certain items, including alcohol, baby formula, and pet food.

For OTC items, you can buy approved items in any of these categories:

  • Over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, herbs, and supplements — including medicines for pain relief, digestive health, cold and allergies, sleep, and more
  • First aid supplies like band-aids, wound dressings, heat and cold packs, and knee braces
  • Home safety products like nightlights and shower chairs
  • Dental care products like toothpaste, toothbrushes, dental floss, and denture cleaners
  • Eye care products like eye drops, contact lens cleaners, and reading glasses
  • Foot care products like insoles and orthotics, antifungals, and corn and callus removers
  • Personal care products like soap, lotion, sunscreen, compression stockings, and incontinence supplies
  • Home diagnosis and testing products, like blood pressure monitors, thermometers, andm COVID tests
  • And more!

As long as you’re buying a type of item that’s allowed, you can choose any size or brand that you like. Not sure if an item is included? Give us a call and we’re happy to help!

What housing costs can I pay with the card?

You can pay most common bills, including:

  • Electricity, water, sewer, trash
  • Home heating fuel (like oil or home natural gas)
  • Internet, satellite, cable, and phone
  • Rent or mortgage

You can not use your card on money orders, prepaid cell phone service, or gasoline for your car.

Do I have to use the card to pay?

The easiest way to spend your Food & Home funds is to use your Food & Home card, shop online with CVS, or shop in the OTC Health Solutions app.

But if you run into problems using your card for qualifying expenses, you can pay out-of-pocket and ask to be paid back. To do this, fill out a CVS/OTC Health Solutions reimbursement request form — online on the CVS OTC portal, or call us at 1-800-338-6833 (TTY 711) to get a paper form.

You’ll need to include documents that prove your purchase qualifies.

For Food and OTC purchases, send a copy of your receipt that shows:

  • Store name and location (must be a Food & Home Card participating store)
  • Date of purchase
  • Specific items you bought and the cost of each one
  • How you paid — like cash, debit, or credit card

For utility bills, send copies of documents that show:

  • Name of the utility company
  • Service address (must match your address on file with Devoted)
  • Payment amount
  • Date of payment

For rent and mortgage payments, send copies of documents that show:

  • Name of the landlord or bank
  • Address of the property (must match your address on file with Devoted)
  • Monthly rent or mortgage amount
  • Payment amount
  • Date of payment

Can I pay bills for other people?

No, you can only pay bills for yourself.
